Timothy Snyder
Timothy Snyder is an American historian and Levin Professor of History at Yale University, focusing on Central and Eastern European history, alongside the Holocaust. He credits his knowledge of languages for such a wide geographical scope of work; speaking five European languages, and reading ten.
He has written several books, one of the most well-known being Bloodlands: Europe Between Hitler and Stalin, which discusses mass murders during the time of World War II.
Snyder categorises the areas of Poland, Belarus, Ukraine, the Baltic states (Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania), north-eastern Romania, and western parts of russia as the ‘Bloodlands’. In these regions, Stalin and Hitler worked together to interacted to increase blood shed and suffering in the areas.
Bloodlands has won several awards, and was named book of the year for 2010 by the Financial Times, The Economist, and more.
